The University scooped the top prize for the first time at the HEIST Awards for a range of initiatives aimed at attracting students to the university.

Judges at the ceremony, held at Manchester United’s Old Trafford Stadium, praised Sunderland for its “Understanding of the national student market, its use of market research and a cross media campaign.”

The university also won a Bronze Award for its Life Changing TV advertising campaign. Its Moving On Up campaign, in association with the Sunderland Echo, was also praised.

The University’s Marketing and Communications Director, Judith Green, said: “To win the top award at such a prestigious national event is wonderful and I am delighted for the whole team who have worked so hard over the past year.”

The long-standing partnership that the club and university have forged continues to work over a number of initiatives. I see these days in July as being nothing but a great success for the University, the club, thestudents and their friends and families.

The university's new Media Centre, based at the riverside campus, provides the latest teaching, research and commercial facilities for subjects ranging from video and new media production, to TV, radio and film.
